Real World San Diego Recap

Wednesday February 4, 2004
OK, I admit, I haven't paid much attention to the last few season's of MTV's venerable reality series, "The Real World." And even though the current season takes place in our very own San Diego, I was doing my best to ignore covering it. I mean, how many times can we re-live the vapid and shallow accounts of a bunch of aimless and clueless twenty-somethings. You can see that every weekend nightclubbing in Pacific Beach!

In any event, I became curious as to what they would show with our fair city as the backdrop - it's kinda cool to see places you frequent on TV - and I became hooked on this 14th season of vapidity. So, I've decided to each week do a little recap of the episode just shown, and try and point ouot the sights and sounds of San Diego. Oh, and I will try and be as snarky as possible.

Episode 7 picks up with both doofus Brad and boosomy Robin (who turns out to be a big boob) both thrown in jail by SDPD's finest while boozing it up in Pacific Beach. But they get cuffed unbeknownst to each other: Brad for public drunkeness and Robin for assault on a male clubhopper. The others spend the epsiode trying to figure out where Las Colinas women's detention center is and how they're going to come up with $8K for Robin's bail.

In the meantime, Frankie once again shows why she can't hold her booze and wonders if she did something. But she can't remember because she blacked out again. She calls her boyfriend and the ensuing conversation ends up with their breakup and lots of weeping. See? Booze is bad!

Like a dork, Randy takes a cab all the way to Santee to pick up Robin (her dad bailed her out) and take a cab all the way back downtown. To Jacquese's amusement, he wonders why he didn't just call a cab for her? Because he's a dumb ass, that's why. Brad tries to walk back hoome after spending the night in the drunk tank, but realizes he has no distance judgement, not to mention good judgement. Lots of tears and contriteness, which ought to last until Episode 8. Read all about this episode and the Real World San Diego cast on MTV's Website.
