Gnarley! Encinitas Skateboarder Danny Way Jumps Great Wall Of China
Sunday July 10, 2005
In the world of X-sports, it's one of the greatest feats. And what better feat than to jump the Great Wall of China? That's what world-class skateboarder and Encinitas resident Danny Way did when he became the first human to successfully leap the wall without motorized assistance. Way, reaching speeds of nearly 50 miles per hour, missed landing the jump on his first attempt, but then subsequently successfully landed the jump five times. He cleared the 61-foot gap at the Ju Yong Guan Gate of the Great Wall, flying down a massive, 120-ft. vertical Megaramp before landing on a 32-ft quarter pipe. Now that's what you'd call X-treme! Check out news, photos and video clips of Danny Way's Great Leap at his official Danny Way Mega X Event site.
