Feel The Need For Speed? Check Out The Coronado Classic Speed Festival, Oct. 8-9
Saturday October 1, 2005
If auto racing is your thing, then you might have to make your way across the bridge to Coronado on Oct. 8 & 9 for the Coronado Classic Speed Festival. Set against the stunning backdrop of San Diego Bay, the eighth annual event, part of the lineup of Fleet Week San Diego events, will feature 225 of the world’s most unique and pedigreed machines at one of the most distinctive stages, Naval Base Coronado, the birthplace of Naval Aviation. A spectator-friendly 1.6 mile course is constructed in a matter of days on the runways and taxiways of Naval Base Coronado. The vintage racecars are chosen to compete on the basis of their historical significance and certified authenticity. Some of the cars on the track are valued in the millions of dollars and, unlike most racing events, fans are invited to tour the pits and speak with the drivers of these unique machines. Proceeds from the event benefit Navy programs. For more information about the Coronado Classic Speed Festival, go to the Fleet Week San Diego website.
