El Cajon's Jimmie Johnson Wins Brickyard 400
Monday August 7, 2006
NASCAR is huge. I mean, c'mon, Will Ferrell's NASCAR satire, "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby," was the highest grossing movie this weekend. But we all knew stock car racing is big here in San Diego, because one of racing's biggest stars, Jimmie Johnson, is a native son of El Cajon. And neither dead batteries nor flat tires nor pit fires could keep Jimmie Johnson from the coveted Victory Lane at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday, as he overcame several early-race hurdles to win at the Brickyard 400. His win solidifies his lead in the Nextel Cup standings and positions him well for a run for the 2006 championship. Read about his victory on his official Hedrick Motorsports Team Website.
