Hotel del Coronado is One of AIA's Favorite Architectural Landmarks
Saturday March 24, 2007
As part of the American Institute of Architects 150th anniversary, it conducted a Harris poll of 1800 Americans to name their favorite American structures. The result is the recently published AIA 150. Many buildings and structures were obvious (The Empire State Building and The White House are ranked #1 and #2). But some are less so. In fact, San Diego has a reprsentative in the 150 - in fact, it cracked the Top 20, coming at #18: the majestic Hotel del Coronado. For us San Diegans, it doesn't come as a surprise as a choice. What does surprise is that it came ahead of more famous landmarks, such as the World Trade Center and the Brooklyn Bridge. It makes you look at the grand hotel in a whole different light.
