Grunion Season Opens This Week

Saturday March 1, 2008
Most Southern Californians associate the grunions with a warm summer evening. But in actuality, the grunion season begins in March with open fishing allowed this month, before the season closes in April and May (open season resumes in June). And this week, March 7-10, is the first scheduled grunion run of the season - of course, those dates are approximate, dependent on what those silvery little fish decide to do (and when to mate). So, what the heck are grunions, you ask? Well, let my article on grunions explain everything you ever wanted to know about these quirky fish right here.
