Sprinter Begins Light Rail Service in North County
Sunday March 9, 2008
If you drive the daily commute along the State Route 78 freeway corridor between Oceanside and Escondido, you know what gridlock is. In fact, that east-west corridor is one of the county's busiest, right up there with I-8 and SR-52. And if you're a public transit rider, you know that riding this 22-mile stretch can be a time-consuming journey. Well, there's new relief with the long-awaited opening of the Sprinter light rail system. This passenger train, something in-between the Coaster commuter train and the San Diego Trolley, opened on March 9, and should serve well the busy north county cities of Oceanside, Vista, San Marcos and Escondido.
