First-Ever Moto X World Championships Roar Into Qualcomm

Tuesday April 8, 2008
If you've ever watched the X-Games on TV, you know how extreme some of these sports are. And one of the most insane sports is Moto X - especially the freestyle competition, where cyclists fly, spin, and sometimes, crash spectacularly. Insane stuff, this Moto X is. Well, San Diego has always been a hotbed of motorcycle racing, with several champions over the years hailing from the area. So, it seems fitting that the X Games brings the first-ever Moto X World Championships to San Diego, April 12-13. The new annual event, held at Qualcomm Stadium, will feature the best Moto X riders in the world competing for the title of Moto X World Champion in a variety of disciplines including Freestyle, SuperMoto, Speed & Style, Best Trick, Step Up and Moto X Racing. All athletes receiving invitations to compete at Moto X World Championships are chosen by a discipline-specific selection committee.

Among the noted riders invited are:

Travis Pastrana: Thirteen-time Moto X and Rally Car Racing X Games medalist, including eight gold.

Ricky Carmichael: Known as the G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time) in motocross, Ricky made his X Games debut last year and won a gold in Moto X Racing.

Carey Hart: X Games silver medalist in Moto X Best Trick; has competed in 10 AMA Supermoto races.

Jeremy "Twitch" Stenberg: Three-time X Games medalist and Winter X Games gold medalist.

Brian Deegan: Eight-time X Games medalist and two-time Winter X Games medalist.

Tickets for the Moto X World Championships are $10, $20 and $25 with free pit access included in the $20 and $25 tickets. A military discount is offered - $5 discount from a $25 ticket and $3 discount from a $20 ticket. For more information about the Moto X World Championships, check out the official site here.
