San Diego's Olympic Connections

Thanks to San Diego's reputation as a breeding ground for great athletes, as well as the year-round presence of the Olympic Training Center (OTC) in Chula Vista, the local region is always well-represented in the Olympic Games. And this year's 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics is no different. Representing a wide array of sports from track & field to sailing to archery to BMX, there will be lots of opportunities to cheer on our hometown athletes, some with very legitimate chances for medals. Some 42 athletes in 17 different sports on Team USA have local San Diego connections, either as homegrown athletes or as a training base at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista.
