Labor Day To-Do: Little Italy Stickball Tournament, Aug. 30, 31 & Sept. 1

Thursday August 28, 2008
San Diegans living in suburbia and community parks with ballfields don't have a frame of reference when it comes to the game of stickball. But if you hail from the East Coast urban cities like New York, Philadelphia and Boston, then you've probably seen stickball being played on streets between row houses, maybe even played it yourself. You might say, like our own Over-the-Line, it's the East Coast variation of baseball.

If you're curious, you can come and watch the streets of Little Italy come alive with the good ol' American (East Coast) past-time during the Little Italy Invitational Stickball Tournament. Every year local teams come together to play for the right to call themselves the king of the block. This year's tournament is an invitational for teams from New York and Puerto Rico to attend. Come and enjoy the taunting, heckling and good ol' fun on Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Columbia Street, between Beech and Cedar Streets, and State Street, between Ash and Beech Streets. For more information, please call 858-279-1924.
