Adams Avenue Street Fair is San Diego's Real Street Scene, Set. 27-28
Rob Hagey's Street Scene might have stumbled back downtown last weekend as a way to harken back to its original roots, but it only recaptured its essence by virtue of its East Village setting - even that was largely confined to the Petco Park parking lot. And even though the kids seemed to respond to the mostly Casbah-indie rock lineup, long gone are the days of an eclectic musical bill that spanned both tastes and ages.Thankfully, there's still the Adams Avenue Street Fair, taking place Sat. 27-28. The annual event in Normal Heights has taken up the mantle that Street Scene has long abandoned with over 70 artists performing on stages spanning eight blocks. The event, in its 27th year, attracts over 100,000 people over two days. And it's free.
Oh, maybe the Adams Avenue Street Fair lacks any marquee acts, but many are respected artists within their musical genres. And if you're a fan of local musicians, the Street Fair is one of the best places to catch them in one setting.
Something Street Scene should aspire to. Read my article, including this year's musical lineup, about the Adams Avenue Street Fair right here.
