Autumn Activities: October is Apple Time in Julian
Friday October 3, 2008
Autumn is my favorite time of the year, and even though San Diego doesn't really have distinct seasons (there's mildly cool, mildly warm, hot, and cool), if you make an effort, you can experience fall in San Diego. You just have to make a short trek up to the mountain town of Julian. There’s nothing better than autumn with crisp fall foliage and succulent apples, and Julian is the place in San Diego where apples are actually locally grown. This quaint town offers homemade apple pie and cider, art shows and entertainment, as well as a local winery. Roadside stands also offer fresh local apples, pears and homemade cider.October is prime time to visit Julian, and the town makes the most of it with a host of Harvest Days events. Julian Apple Days Festival, Oct. 4-5, is a special weekend full of fun for the whole family with apple displays, apple treats and apple harvest-related activities.
