Get Festive: North Park Music, Hillcrest, Fiesta del Sol, Chargers, Philippine Festivals All Happening This Weekend, Aug. 7-9
The North Park Music Thing - San Diego Music & Media Conference and Festival is a three day music event, which takes place August 7-9, 2009 at the Lafayette Hotel & Suites, 2223 El Cajon Blvd. in North Park.
The event is great for music lovers of all types, but especially for artists looking for success in the industry. All conference registrants will learn about the music business during panel discussions, workshops and demo review sessions. NPMT will feature speakers who have been involved in local, regional, and national music. On Saturday, following the workshops, NPMT will showcase nearly 150 musical acts from the Southwestern United States, on up to 20 stages in San Diego, California.
North Park Music Thing will also present an all afternoon Street Fest right on El Cajon Blvd, in front of the Lafayette Hotel on Sunday, August 9 from Noon-7pm. Fiesta del Sol - The 4th Annual Fiesta del Sol is a free two-day street festival celebrating the history, diverse cultures, andengagement of the people of San Diego. It is a fun, family friendly, alcohol and tobacco free event focused on creating positive change by empowering our communities. Fiesta del Sol takes place Saturday-Sunday, Aug. 8-9, 2009, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Barrio Logan (Logan Ave., between Evans and 26th St.). The fiesta includes areas like Children’s Village, education, arts and culture, healthy living, community involvement, as well as lots of entertainment, food, and vendors. Chargers FanFest '09 - Chargers football fans are already getting pumped up for the 2009 season and they'll have a free opportunity at a sneak peek of the upcoming season at Fanfest. Fanfest 2009 will take place at Qualcomm Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 8, beginning with the autograph session at 10:15 and practice immediately after from 11-1 p.m. Parking and admission are free. The parking lot will open at 8 a.m. and stadium gates at 9:30 a.m. FanFest will feature the debut performance of the 2009 Charger Girls and the debut of the 2008 season Charger highlight film, followed by an opportunity for autographs. Free interactive games will be located on the plaza concourse and concession stands will be selling hot dogs and soft drinks for $1.00 each. Check out Chargers.com for 2009 season details.
Hillcrest CityFest 2009 - CityFest 2009 is celebrating the silver anniversary of the lighting of the beloved Hillcrest sign, and this year's street fair features over 250 arts, crafts, and food vendors, a grand stage, and a beer garden. CityFest 2009 takes place Sunday, August 9 from noon to 10 p.m. along 5th Avenue and University Avenue. The big highlight is the Sign Lighting, creating a one-of-a-kind magical atmosphere as the intersection under the Hillcrest sign is going to be closed off and will have a Grand Stage, a Spirit's Garden, and will host the Lantern Parade that will end the event at dark with a countdown to re-lighting the sign. 25th Philippine Cultural Arts Festival - The 25th Philippine Cultural Arts Festival sponsored by the Samahan Filipino American Performing Arts and Education Center at Balboa Park features two days of colorful Philippine folk dances, rondalla and kulintang music, talent show of contemporary music and dances, martial arts exhibition, arts and crafts booth and Filipino food by Conching's Cafe of National City.The event is free and takes place August 8 and 9, 2009, at 11 am to 5 pm. in Balboa Park.
Chula Vista Lemon Festival - The Chula Vista Lemon Festival brings 40,000 festival goers to the Third Avenue village who enjoy a full day of entertainment, as well as viewing arts, shopping at specialty shops, visiting the Chula Vista Heritage Museum, and enjoying dozens of delicious food options. The 13th Chula Vista Lemon Festival takes place on Sunday, Aug. 9 in Chula Vista's nifty downtown village.
