Park View Defeats Taiwan for 2009 Little League World Series

Tuesday September 1, 2009

Their journey ended just as they had envisioned, even though they had to come from behind to do it. On Sunday, Aug. 30, Chula Vista's Park View All-Stars came from behind to defeat Taiwan, 6-3, to claim the World Champion title in the 2009 Little League World Series.

Playing before a national television audience and 32,400 at Howard J. Lamade Stadium in Williamspot, PA, Park View was led by shortstop Andy Rios, who went 3-for-3, scored two runs and knocked in one for Park View. Third baseman Seth Godfrey went 1-for-2, driving in two runs. Kiko Garcia got the win in relief, working 3 1/3 innings of no-hit, shutout ball while striking out six.

The team returned to a big league welcome late  Monday to their family and fans in Chula Vista. An official celebration and rally will be held on Friday at 6 p.m. DeVore Stadium, Southwestern College, 900 Otay Lakes Road, Chula Vista. Gates open at 4p.m.
