Southern California has had steady and consistent rainfall this season, and the local deserts particularly benefit in the spring, when the desert wildflowers come into bloom. Around Borrego Springs and in the Anza-Borrego Desert, March looks to be a fine time to make the trek to our local desert to see this annual natural display.
When will the flowers bloom? It all depends. According to the Borrego Springs Chamber of Commerce, each year's bloom is unique in its variety, profusion, and timing. From late February through March, you can find blossoms on the desert floor. For up-to-date information, call the Wildflower Hotline at 760-767-4684 which is updated weekly.
The Visitor Center, located east of Borrego Springs on Palm Canyon Drive, provides brochures, books and other printed information, as well as scientific exhibits and a slideshow about the Park's flora, fauna, geology and human history. The Visitor Center hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily through April, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on weekends/holidays only from May-September.
