If you're a dog lover and concerned about the plight of dogs overpopulating our animal shelters, here's an event that will bring awareness to pet adoptions in a fun and festive way. The 2011 Doggie Street Festival is dedicated to increasing pet adoption through its yearly Festival and special educational events and projects throughout the year. Enjoy scrumptious foods, entertainment, exhibits, pet obedience demonstrations, vendors with pet related products and services, contests, including best dressed dog, best pet trick, and owner pet look-alike competition.

This one-day pet celebration and adoption event will be held on Sunday, July 31, 2011; at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Park from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is FREE. This is a non-profit event.

Breed specific rescue groups and local shelters will have booths and information on pet adoption. Some groups and shelters will have
dogs available for adoption on Festival Day. You may bring your dog to Doggie Street Festival, but make sure they are well-behaved and on leash at all times.

This event is organized by San Diego filmmaker Jude Artenstein. Through her feature length documentary film titled "Rescue Me", which chronicles the journey of a group of dogs, some rescued, others lost or facing euthanasia, the San Diego-based, award-winning filmmaker became acutely aware of this national tragedy and it's impact on the local dog rescue and shelter community. In an effort to participate in positive action in her home community Jude decided to organize the Annual Doggie Street Festival.
