WHAT: The Carlsbad Flower Fields
WHERE: 5704 Paseo Del Norte, Carlsbad CA
WHEN: Through May 11. Admission gates are open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. After April 6, the Flower Fields gates are open until 6 p.m. The fields remain open one hour after admission gates close.
COST: $7 for adults; $6 for seniors 60 and older; $4 for children 3-10, and free for children 2 and younger.

Special Activities at the Carlsbad Flower Fields

Kids Days: noon to 5 p.m., March 29-30. Kite making, face painting and Lego creation. Ronald McDonald performs 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday; Flamenco musician Javid performs noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Strawberry Festival and Arts and Crafts Fair: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., April 5-6. Pottery, juried art, strawberry treats like pies, funnel cakes and shortcake.

Orchid Festival: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., April 12-13. Featuring hundreds of blooming orchids. Artist Javid performs Flamenco music Saturday and Sunday.

National Volunteer Week festivities: noon to 6 p.m., April 26-27. Information on display for San Diego County non-profit organizations, with musical entertainment and food. The Pioneer Club sings songs about flowers 1:30 to 2 p.m. Sunday.
