We all know about the great produce available at San Diego's neighborhood farmers' markets
, which are wonderful weekly gathering places for the community. But did you know there are a number of roadside farmer stands scattered throughout San Diego County where you can also buy local produce. One of the most famous is the Chino Farms produce stand in Rancho Santa Fe, which is known for its wonderful produce. Local chefs often hit the stand daily to use for preparation in their restaurants. But there are a lot more places for you to discover. Featuring: Multiple varieties of most produce: Tomatoes, squash, squash blossoms, beans, shell beans, dried beans, melons, cucumbers, sprouts, greens and lettuces, celery root, carrots, turnips, parsnips, salsafy, radishes, brussels sprouts, okra, onions, Jerusalem artichokes, peppers, herbs, strawberries, strawberry figs, Concord grapes. Open year round: Fall/Winter: Tuesday-Saturday 10-4; Sunday 10-1 Spring/Summer: Tuesday-Saturday 10-5; Sunday 10-1 Closed Mondays.
Spring-summer: sweet Douglas strawberries, juicy navel oranges, Hass and Fuerte avocados, asparagus, potatoes, mushrooms, honey, eggs, fresh flowers and dried fruits. Summer-fall: blackberries, raspberries, boysenberries, tomatoes, white corn, persimmons, peaches, melons, grapes, green beans, okra, green peppers, Nabal and Reed avocados, apples, apricots, figs, and plums. Open: March to November Tuesday-Friday: noon to 5pm (until 6pm after daylight savings time) Saturday-Sunday: 10am-5pm (until 6pm after daylight savings time) Closed Mondays and rainy days.
Since 1980, seasonal produce, flowers, gifts, organic navel & valencia oranges, grapefruit and lemons, local strawberries picked daily, olive oils & vinegars, local raw honey, homemade jams, mustards and salsas, eggs, gourmet snacks, cherries, peaches, corn, plants, succulents, pottery & more. Open: Year-round Monday through Sunday, 10 AM - 6:00 PM
Calico Ranch was first planted in the 1930’s with many varieties of antique apples and pears near the historic town of Julian. This ranch offers the unique experience of picking your own fruit with more than 130 varieties of apples as well as several varieties of pears.

Featuring: Vegetarian Eggs! Brown or white, single or double-yolk, sizes medium to extra large, available in cartons, flats, boxes, pallets or by the truckload; fresh, unprocessed sage and eucalyptus honey from the 16 beehives at the Hilliker farm; in spring and summer, fresh vegetables from Hilliker's home-grown vegetable field are also available. Open: Year round, Monday through Saturday, 8-11:30 a.m. and 12:30-5 p.m.
Featuring: U-pick strawberries; three farmstands also sell picked strawberries, tomatoes, cucumbers, red bell peppers and other vegetables. Schools and group tours available. Location: U-pick is just east of Interstate 5 at Cannon Road. Farmstands are located at Cannon Road and Paseo Del Norte in Carlsbad; at the entrance to the Carlsbad Flower Fields
on Paseo Del Norte; and on Old El Camino Real near Fairbanks Ranch in Del Mar. Open: The U-pick operation opens for the season in late March or early April, depending on the weather and field conditions, and is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, including holidays. The three farmstands are open year round, daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. including major holidays.
One of the last remaining dairies remaining in San Diego where you can buy fresh milk. Featuring: All fluid milk varieties (nonfat, 1%, 2% and whole), chocolate milk, buttermilk, half & half, goat's milk (by preorder), yogurt, cottage cheeses, butter, eggs, coffee creamers, and ice cream. Open: Year-round Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed Sundays).
