Top 5 Picks Of The Week - Feb. 9-15, 2004

By , About.com Guide

The week of Feb. 9-15, 2004: Not only does Valentine's Day fall on a Saturday, but cupid is joined in San Diego this week by Tiger Woods and Sting - well, not together, of course. But there's lots to do this week in San Diego and here are my top picks.

1. Buick Invitational - Feb. 9-15

The world's greatest golfer returns to Torrey Pines to defend his title. Yep, Tiger Woods makes his way to San Diego for the 2004 Buick Invitational, Feb 9-15 along with the top players from the PGA Tour. See whether Tiger can make it two years in a row, or if Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh, Sergio Garcia and others will stand in his way. Practice rounds are on Monday and Tuesday; Pro-Am is on Wednesday. Actual tournament runs Thursday-Sunday.

2. Sting - Feb. 13

The ex-Police front man and omnipresent Grammy nominee performs at Copley Symphony Hall downtown at 8 p.m.

3. The Roots - Feb. 13

The Roots, one of the more critically acclaimed and challenging hip hop bands, performs at the Belly Up in Solana Beach.

4. Miracle - currently in theaters

Kurt Russel gives a powerful performance as Herb Brooks, coach of the 1980 US Olympic hockey team which stunned the world by defeating the Soviet team and went on to win the gold medal.

5. Fully Committed - Feb. 12-15 (through Feb. 29)

This one-man performance featuring David McBean has been getting rave reviews. Presented by the tiny Cygnet Theatre in Rolando, McBean gives a virtuoso performance as he not only takes reservations for a hot New York restaurant, he also plays *all* the other characters...some 40 or so!
