With all that anticipation, Woods once again will be making his 2008 PGA Tour debut at the Buick Invitational, Jan. 21-27 (acutal tournament starts on the 24th). After his spectacular 2007 year, the world will be waiting to see if he can continue his domination and make a run at the Grand Slam. Besides, he has a history of success at Torrey Pines - Woods is once again the defending champion at Torrey Pines, his fifth.
Woods has made a point of saying how much he enjoys Torrey Pines on his Website in the past to his fans: "As I said on my website, I'm going to start the 2007 PGA Tour next week by defending my title at the Buick Invitational. I've loved playing Torrey Pines since my days in the Junior World and look forward to the tournament. Even though they have redesigned the South Course, it's still a wonderful layout and I always enjoy San Diego."
The Buick Invitational always sports a strong field, and this year promises the same (hey, Tiger is playing, right?). And then there's that monster-of-a-golf-course, Torrey Pines South: the Rees Jones beast that will host the 2008 United States Open. It's the course that everyone wants to play, after watching the tournament on national TV, but one that no one can play, both ability-wise and literally. Getting at tee time at the popular municipal course is akin to striking gold (believe me, I try nearly every week).
Nevertheless, Torrey Pines is a great venue to watch a golf tournament, and with Woods playing and the U.S. Open coming up, interest in the tournament will be even higher. Couple that with an incredibly strong field, and the 2008 Buick Invitational could turn out to be a repeat for a guy named Tiger.
