Pechanga: The Entertainment
What sets the Pechanga Resort & Casino apart from the plethora of casino options in the San Diego vicinity is the melding of resort, gaming and top-notch entertainment. In addition to the high-tech Silk nightclub, which provides the Temecula area with a place for the beautiful people to strut their stuff, Pechanga has the Eagle’s Nest rooftop lounge and the Cabaret Lounge offering dancing on the casino floor. In addition, the Grand Ballroom provides a 3,000-seat venue where championship boxing matches are regularly staged, often broadcast on HBO, ESPN, FoxSports and NBC.
But the main attraction when it comes to Pechanga entertainment is the Theater Showroom, a 1,200-seat state-of-the-art concert hall. This fine venue, which is comfortable with not a bad seat in the house, is an ideal place to see top-name entertainment. And like many of the other Indian casino’s, Pechanga has the financial clout to attract some of the most popular entertainers around. B.B. King, Steve Winwood, Hall & Oates, Cheap Trick, the Doobie Brothers, the Goo Goo Dolls are just a few of the many acts to grace the showroom stage.
In fact, Indian casinos as a whole have allowed many performers who no longer are “arena” acts to continue performing in first-class venues. And Pechanga’s venue allows performers to make a stop in Temecula where they might not have played before.
Playing before a near capacity crowd, the Wallflowers performed a fine set featuring song from their new album, “Rebel, Sweetheart,” although frontman Jakob Dylan did make fun of the fact that he and his bandmates weren’t quite sure where in California they were performing – only that they were at some casino. Yet, if the band didn’t have to head down to San Diego right after the show for their Humphrey’s gig, they undoubtedly would have been impressed with where they were.
As were my wife and myself. And the beauty of it? Well, after the show, we were able to spend a few more bills in the casino, and when we got tired, we just headed back up the elevator to our wonderful room. Going to a concert just doesn’t get any better than that. And the Pechanga Resort & Casino has executed everything to perfection.
