What is Plaza Bonita:
Located in the South County area, Plaza Bonita is the Westfield indoor, two-level counterpart to North County in the north.
What makes it so special?:
Plaza Bonita was in need of a refresh, and in 2008, a $120 million expansion upgraded the once run-of-the-mill '80s era mall. The addition includes a Target, AMC Theatres, Borders Books and Music, 43 specialty stores including H&M, and a food court. The mall clientele reflects the more ethnically diverse makeup of the Chula Vista, National City area shoppers (Hispanic, Filipino).
What's the mall's flavor?:
The ethnic diversity, which reflects the surrounding communities of National City, Bonita, Chula Vista. The mall has undergone an extensive makeover which was completed in 2008 and gave it a slick sheen. Newer additions including a Target, H&M, Nordstrom Rack and AMC multiplex.
What's the clientele?:
Middle and working class, ethnically diverse. Many shoppers come from across the border in Tijuana.
There's an Applebee's, Outback Steakhouse, and El Torito, along with a slick new spacious food court. The food court is one of the best around and is great for people watching.
JC Penney, Nordstrom Rack, Target and Macy's are the anchor stores. The rest of the stores are standard mall chain fare as with the other local Westfield malls.
Parking is plentiful. A three-story, 450-space parking structure was added with the recent expansion.
