San Diego Shopping: Plaza Camino Real

By Inigo Figuracion, About.com

What is Plaza Camino Real?:

Another generic, indoor Westfield mall, Plaza Camino Real serves the North County Coastal area (Encinitas, Carlsbad, Oceanside). Two-level, with the usual assortment of over 170 stores.

What makes it so special?:

Not a lot, really. Plaza Camino Real is a typical 1980s-era indoor mall that is starting to show its age, and is probably due for some renovation. But its pretty much the only thing for residents along the North County coastal area.

What's the mall's flavor?:

Middle-America, middle class. Plaza Camino is as undistinguished as North County Fair in Escondido, except they have a MovieMax Theatre Plaza. See above description.

What's the clientele?:

Middle and working class, along with the large military population from Oceanside.

Food factor:

Food court fare, and not much at that.

Signature stores:

JC Penney, Sears, two Macy's, along with the usual assortment of mall tenants: Abercrombie & Fitch, Bath and Body Works, Ann Taylor Loft, Hollister, Forever 21, Steve & Barry's. There's also a MovieMax Theatre, but it only has four screens.

Parking prognosis:

Parking is plentiful. Freeway access is from SR-78.

The Essentials:

Address:
2525 El Camino Real #100
Carlsbad CA 92008
(760) 729 7927
