San Diego is known for surf and sunshine, but it’s also a great city for romance. While romantic spots in San Diego has been discussed on this site before, romantic activities tend to be forgotten about, and let’s face it – most people who live in San Diego are pretty active (blame it on all that sunshine!). Whether you’re a couple that enjoys being on land or in the water, there are plenty of ways to spend a romantic day in San Diego. Here are the top five most romantic activities to do in San Diego.

Snorkeling in the La Jolla Cove

Snorkeling in the La Jolla Cove is an incredible experience thanks to the many types of sea creatures you can see, such as seals, spiny lobsters, reef sharks and different types of fish. Snorkeling the cove is even better when you have your significant other beside you. Hold hands as you romantically kick your fins through the water. After your snorkeling fun is done, bring a change of clothes to put on and head to one of La Jolla’s incredibly romantic oceanview restaurants like the Marine Room or George’s at the Cove.

Where to Find the Romance: The La Jolla Cove is located off of Girard Avenue in downtown La Jolla. The best part to snorkel is the inlet area just north of the public bathrooms located on the grassy area by the cove.

Wine Tasting in Rancho Bernardo

Wine is practically synonymous with romance (and if you doubt it, just watch an episode of The Bachelor and see how much is highlighted in the romance-based show) and luckily for San Diegans, it’s not hard to find good wine in the city. The most romantic way to sip wine in San Diego, though, is while wine tasting as the interactive, learning experience wine tasting can provide helps make your date more social and fun. For a romantic wine tasting day, head to Rancho Bernardo Winery, where you can also grab a romantic dinner at the onsite café or restaurant after your wine tasting.

Where to Find the Romance: Rancho Bernardo Winery is located at 133330 Paseo del Verano Norte, San Diego.

Hiking Torrey Pines

Get up your amorous endorphins with a hike in Torrey Pines. When it comes to romantic activities in San Diego, Torrey Pines wins for hiking thanks to its absolutely gorgeous cliff-top views of the Pacific Ocean. Combine that with the many benches and lookout points dotting the trails of Torrey Pines that are prefect for some cuddling up while taking in the views and it’s a perfect way for active couples to spend a romantic morning or afternoon.

Where to Find the Romance: 12600 North Torrey Pines Road, San Diego

Surfing at Sunset

You know how amazing seeing a sunset from a San Diego beach is, now picture seeing that same sunset while you’re in the water. If you’re an expert surfer, you probably already know this, but if your sweetie doesn't, grab him or her and share it with – and don’t forget a sunset kiss on your surfboards. If you’re novice surfers, paddle out and sit on your surfboard at one of the surf spots ideal for beginners, like the area north of the Scripps Pier.

Where to Find the Romance: Experienced surfers will enjoy surfing in North PB off of Tourmaline Boulevard while novice surfers can find some easy wave fun at Scripps Pier off of Kennel Way in La Jolla.
