Some might call August the dog day sof summer, but in San Diego it is anything but. There's lots to do around town as we head into the home stretch of summer, and here are some suggestions on what to do in San Diego during August.

Aug. 17 - Bird Watching

Through Aug. 31 - Boomers

Aug. 13 & 14 - ArtWalk on the Bay

The team that produces the annual ArtWalk in San Diego’s Little Italy each April is pleased to announce the return of ArtWalk on the Bay, a fine arts festival sponsored by the Port of San Diego. Free, 619-615-1090, Embarcadero Marina Park North, San Diego

Through Aug. 17 - Yank!

Aug. 17 - America's Finest City Half Marathon

The Half Marathon begins at historic Cabrillo National Monument, with its majestic view of both San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean, follows scenic San Diego Bay and Harbor Island along the Embarcadero to The Star of India, winds through downtown San Diego, and ends in beautiful Balboa Park. Aug. 7 - La Jolla Rough Water Swim

The largest rough-water swimming competition in the U.S. takes place at La Jolla Cove. 858-456-2100, La Jolla Cove, La Jolla, CA

Through Aug. 28 - Screen on the Green

Back by popular demand, SDMA’s outdoor film series Screen on the Green returns to Thursday nights starting July 31. Screen on the Green is free to the public and also gives movie-goers the opportunity to take advantage of Balboa Park’s lush environment. Bring a picnic, a lawn chair and some friends to the East Lawn (near the Botanical Building) each Thursday night at 8:00 p.m. Admission is free.

Aug. 30 to Sept. 1 - Old Town Grape Stomp

Wine blessings, live entertainment, food, Lucille Ball look-a-like competitions, and grapes galore are all part of this year's first annual Old Town Grape Stomp taking place at Plaza del Pasado in San Diego Old Town State Historic Park August 30 to September 1 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Cost to attend is $30 and a percentage of the proceeds will go to local non-profit Warrior Foundation to help wounded and disabled military heroes. Aug. 22 & 23 - Donna Marsh: Designer Trunk Show

Join Donna Marsh for an exclusive preview of high-end, refined fall and winter fashions from Roberto Avolio, Fianona, The Michael Collection, Averardo Bessi and Raffinalla on Friday, August 22nd and Saturday, August 23rd from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. On these two days, Donna Marsh will showcase the designers' must-have women's lines and a brand representative will be on hand for personal fashion consulting and fittings.
